Shanrong Zhao, PhD Director, Computational Biology. Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development. Cambridge, USA. More than twenty years of experience in computational biology with strong interdisciplinary skills in computer science, biostatistics, computational biology and chemistry. A recognized pioneer in next generation sequencing, big data analysis, cloud computing and machine learning. Have led multiple cross-functional teams to successfully implement pipelines and informatics systems, including QuickRNASeq, QuickIsoSeq, QuickMIRSeq, Rainbow, Stormbow and ImmunoPortal, for large-scale data analysis to support drug discovery.

More than twenty years of experience in computational biology with strong interdisciplinary skills in computer science, biostatistics, computational biology and chemistry.

He is a professor emeritus of Computer Science since September 2007 till now. He was a former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University, Cairo-Egypt (1996-2007). He was a full professor Dr.of Computer Science at Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University from 1989 to 1996. He was a Director of Scientific Computing Center at Ain Shams University (1984-1990).In 1996 he was moved to the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at the same university. His research includes Knowledge engineering and computing, expert systems, intelligent medical and health informatics, and intelligent e-learning technologies. He has published around 400 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings in these areas. He has been involved in more than 500 conferences and workshops as a Keynote speaker, member of Int. Program Committees, organizer and Session Chair. He is author and co-author of 25 Books in English and Arabic Languages.

His research includes: intelligent computing, knowledge-based systems, data mining, knowledge engineering, bio-medical and health informatics, e-government, intelligent e-learning and artificial intelligence technologies.

M Raj Lakshman is currently the Director of Research Laboratories and the Chief of Lipid Research at the VA Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He also has joint appointments as a Professor in the Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine as well as in the Department of Medicine at the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He directs studies in the areas of Alcoholism, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Oxidative Stress, Coronary Artery Disease, Lipids & Lipoproteins, Metabolic & Genetic Obesity, Hepatotoxins and Gene Regulation & Expression. He joined the National Institute of Health, to work on Alcoholic Hyperlipidemia under the able guidance of Professors Richard Veech and Nobel Laureate, Hans Krebs. In 1979, he received the prestigious VA Research Career Scientist Award working in the field of Alcohol and Alcoholism at the VA Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was honored the “Washington Heart Ball” Research Award in 1990 in the field of Hyperlipidemia.

Prof Graham Ball is Professor of Bioinformatics at Nottingham Trent University and CSO of CompanDX UK and CompanDX China Ltd. He is Associate Director the John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre and biostatistics lead on three clinical projects. He has been involved in the development and validation of bioinformatics algorithms using Artificial Neural Networks for the last 18 years. He has 115 journal papers and 5 patents in this area. After a PhD (UN funded) and a Post Doc modelling environmental interactions with ANNs at NTU, in 2000 he shifted the focus of his analysis to proteomic and genomic data searching for proteins and genes associated with cancer. His current research interests are directed at the classification and characterisation of biological systems including diagnostic and classification modelling of microbial pathogens, cancer clinical pathology, allergic responses and viral diseases through the use of ANNs and other machine learning techniques. He is involved in the molecular characterisation of Breast Cancer with Prof Ian Ellis’ team at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

Dr Bhullar is trained in biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics at the University of Calgary, with postdoctoral training in genomics and proteomics at Harvard Medical School and MIT in the US. He was awarded an MBA from London Business School.

Since 2011, he is the Chair of BaselLIFE, the largest gathering on drug discovery, next generation sequencing and precision medicine, held annually in Switzerland. He co-founded Swiss Vault Systems GmbH, and Genebook AG, which are advancing secure management of genomics data and healthcare data sharing.
